About Toto
The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all all-encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every musical style.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour helped them become a household name across the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.

The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members were together on stage at the same time. The band broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all original Toto members were performing together for more than 31 years. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
